About musiq.com and miq productions
musiq.com and miq productions were launched in 1996 as a vehicle for the production of experimental electroacoustic music with strong roots in various traditional musical musics from around the world.
Since then, miq productions has produced 10 CDs for the miq productions record label, as well as producing works of other artists.
Since the beginning, it was apparent that there was a need not just for CDs but also information about some of the traditions that have heavilly inspired the productions on miq productions.
With that in mind, musiq.com has included extensive articles on makamsal music traditions and theories, rebetika, ouds, digital audio, and other topics.
The founder of musiq.com and miq productions, Eliot Bates, has an extensive history with musical peformance, education, and recording production.
Since 1992, he has performed on oud with various groups, including the Santa Barbara Middle Eastern Ensemble,
Farabi, and Kinetik Trance, and since 2000 has been performing oud, singing, and playing percussion with
3spell, Basquerole, Village Uprising, occasionally with Turkish industrial duo Cemali,
and most recently his new trio Nerelisin. He has been invited to present at academic conferences in the US and Turkey, on topics of Turkish music,
recording technology, and technological mediations in experimental electroacoustic music. For more on Eliot's educational and academic work, check out www.eliotbates.com
