To play back mp3 files on your computer, you need the following components:

• CD-quality digital audio card (built-in to all PowerMacs)
• 32mb memory minimum
• mp3 playing software (there are freeware and shareware players for all platforms: see our players page)

That's all! There are also mp3 plug-ins for Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer which allow streaming mp3, and QuickTime 4.0 and Real Audio G2, though buggy, do offer mp3 support. We recommend stand-alone players, since they often have excellent play list features, and support more forms of tags (tags are information about each track, including song titles, album information, artist information, style of music, and date).
